The character of this personality type is largely captured by an allusion to Louis XIV. There aren't many representatives of this type. It is estimated that this group makes up roughly 5% of the population. Their inner strength and deepest need is the drive to lead. These people feel a strong urge to organize and marshal people toward the achievement of some, perhaps still distant, goals. They tend to have a highly developed empirical, objective, extraverted thinking style, which they use to quickly sort, generalize, and summarize the world around them, and in which they easily find examples and evidence to support their claims. For ENTJs, life unfolds through confrontations, disputes, debates, and clashes with others, with the aim of learning something and improving themselves. For many people such "arguing it out" can be a very unpleasant experience, but on the ENTJ's side there is nothing primarily hostile about it. This personality type also often assumes it is right until someone proves otherwise. If it turns out they are wrong, they will typically hold genuine admiration and respect for whoever had the strength to stand up to them and gain the upper hand, as well as feel gratitude and respect for having learned something new – giving them a better chance next time. People who cannot stand up to them and let themselves be intimidated by them are, to them, "invisible." Those who simply want to be told what is expected of them, without unnecessary fuss, can drive ENTJs literally to distraction.

People in this group don't feel comfortable in jobs that don't demand imagination and intuition. They thrive where they must seek new solutions, go down paths no one has yet trodden. It's worth remembering that although they value independence, they tend to do better within some kind of organization than as "lone wolves." It's also worth keeping in mind that they measure their success by what they have achieved, not by how well-liked they are. Anyone working with them should realize that this can be, on the one hand, magnificent, but on the other hand exhausting, with not a moment's rest.
